Daddy Troma himself, Lloyd Kaufman, returns to director’s chair in this fourth entry in the Nuke ‘Em High series. And whilst it may be new chapter, it is, for all intents and purposes, a remake of the 1986 classic (?), with extended backstory and numerous nods to the original. Any questions so far? Yes, you at the back. Ah yes, the reason for the ‘Vol 1’ tag? According Kauffman, pointy chinned maestro Tarantino made the suggestion of splitting the film in two like his own Kill Bill.
On the basis of what we’ve seen in Vol. 1, it makes you wonder what possible need there is for this segmentation when there is so much that’s superfluous here. Kauffman throws everything at the screen from breasts, to bums, to duck rape, to 6 foot penises. It’s such a brutal assault that it becomes hard to focus on any one thing and very soon, it just becomes a quagmire of debauched boredom.
Put bluntly, Return to Nuke Em High is the cinematic equivalent of the hyperactive kid in class who won’t shut the fuck up.
